What materials should I use
There are a number of materials that can be used for your signs. We can help you decide what the most appropriate material for your use is. We need to know how it will be used, will it be indoors or out and how long will it last.
- Acrylic
This is a very versatile and durable, high gloss plastic. It comes in a variety of colors or clear. It is used for long term internal and external signs including light boxes, wall directories, menu boards and trade show graphics.
- Aluminum
This is a very durable material used primarily for outdoor applications but is suitable for indoor also. It is available in a variety or colors and will not rust. This is available in a number of thicknesses and laminated to a corrugated core that is lightweight and waterproof.
- Banner
Our top quality banners are durable and weather resistant and are completely finished with grommets or ties for easy hanging. Our banners are available a variety of colors, and strengths. Our durable 13 oz. banners are the perfect solution for one sided banners. For double sided and over the street banners, we recommend our 18 oz. material.
- Corrugated Plastic
This is the perfect material to use for short term indoor or outdoor uses. It comes in a variety of colors and is a cost effective material for temporary signs. Our top quality banners are durable and weather resistant and are completely finished with grommets or ties for easy hanging. Our banners are available a variety of colors, and strengths. Our durable 13 oz. banners are the perfect solution for one sided banners. For double sided and over the street banners, we recommend our 18 oz. material.
- Expanded PVC
Sold under the brand names Komatex and Sintra, these are rigid foam sheets which are produced with a fine cell matte surface. These are very lightweight but sturdy and can be used for a variety of indoor uses. Certain colors are suitable for short term outdoor uses.
- Magnetic
Magnetic signs are flexible, easy to remove and generally used on vehicles or steel signs. This is the product you should use if you want to advertise on your vehicle but don't want it permanently attached. This material will last a long time if cared for properly. We will provide instruction on how to care for your magnetic sign and your vehicle with your purchase.
- Gator Foam and Foam Core
Gator Foam is the perfect material is use for mounting graphics and photo's. This material is warp resistant and is available in back and white.
Foam Core is a graphic arts board made of a foam center between two liners. Very lightweight and cost effective but can warp and is suitable for indoor use only.
- Wood and Wood Composites
Very durable and will give your years of service in an outdoor application. Materials can be painted (MDO), vinyl coated (Omega Board), or clad in aluminum (Luster Board).
What size sign should I get
There are a number of things that go into how large your sign should be. In many cases this will be dictated by the available space. The first thing you should consider is how far people will be viewing your sign. The Graphics Institute recommends that minimum letter size should be 1" for every 10 feet of distance the sign will be seen from. See the chart below to determine the correct letter size.
